The work shop is stashed in an undisclosed location in the Great North West. It’s of post and beam construction, I helped a friend/mentor of mine build it years ago, and we both use it for our various projects. Every piece I’ve made has come out of there.
I use exotic woods in my process, natural colors and grain structure only. No stains or dyes used, ever. Exotics are interesting on many levels. The feel, smell, texture all vary widely from species to species, and each has a particular character. Some have a dust that is irritating, others are burned for incense. A few exude a waxy pitch, others bone dry.
All are amazing in some way or another, and that’s probably why I have little containers of off cuts stashed all over everywhere, I can’t bare tossing them out. I even save some of the dust, for color specific putties. My next challenge is how to utilize these little bits that I have everywhere. I’ve got some ideas and experimenting now with that. Stay tuned to see what gets produced.
